Online Course Features and Requirements

Number of tests:  One midterm and one final, both of which must be taken at one of our testing centers.

Required on campus sessions:  Two, one for the midterm and one for the final. 

Special labs or practicum:  None

Number of assignments:  A variety of assignments ranging from a Internet based assignments, case studies, video assignments, web links, group assignments, and others as deemed necessary for the completion of the course. 

Estimated time per week:  9 hours

Scheduled activities or self paced:  Self-paced and some group work.

Description

An analysis and application of the basic principles of management. Subjects include management by objectives, supervisory leadership styles, current managerial problems, motivational techniques, organizational problems, communications, planning techniques and management control systems. Emphasis will be placed on individual and group involvement through case problems, group discussions, role playing, and other individual involvement methods.

Objectives

We will be covering the all of the chapters in the textbook, and the objectives are as follows:

  • Increase the students' understanding of the basic functions of management including but not limited to motivation leadership, work groups, relationships with superiors, colleagues, and subordinates, planning and establishing objectives, organizing, control systems related to management concepts. 
  • Encourage the students to apply management knowledge to practical day-to-day business issues.
  • Provide the opportunity for students to understand how managerial jobs differ from other types of jobs.. 
  • Provide the opportunity for students to understand the factors that lead to organizational success. 
  • Introduce students to the need for management in business organizations and the role of management in developing an organizational structure, acquiring human resources and creating a supportive work environment. 
  • Provide the opportunity for students to understand how attitudes and values will influence managerial styles.
  • Provide the opportunity for students to use motivational theories to improve their managerial effectiveness.
  • Provide the opportunity for students to learn how to improve their planning performance and the planning performance of others.

Your final grade is based on the amount of points possible for the course.  You will be graded by taking your points divided by the points possible and the scale below will be used to calculate your final grade.

89.5 - 93.4%  A-

86.5 - 89.4%  B+

83.5 - 86.4%  B

79.5 - 83.4%  B-

76.5 - 79.4%  C+

73.5 - 76.4%  C

69.5 - 73.4%  C-

66.5 - 69.4%  D+

63.5 - 66.4%  D

59.5 - 63.4%  D-

59.4 and below  Failing
