Textbook Required:   Total Fitness and Wellness 4th Edition by Scott K. Powers, Stephen L. Dodd, and Virginia J. Noland

Special labs or practicum:  15 lab activities (all can be done at home)

Requirements: 

Students must have access to the following:

  • Equipment:  You will need a computer that is able to access and interact with the Web. For best results, a Pentium or PowerMac with a 28.8 Kbps or faster modem and 64 MB or more of RAM should be considered the minimal system.
     
  • Software:  You will need an Internet browser version 5 or higher, either Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer.  A word processor capable of saving and opening RTF (rich text format) documents is required (almost all popular word processing programs can do this).
     
  • Internet connection: Home users need Internet access through an Internet Service Provider (ISP) that offers a reliable, direct connection to the Internet.

Course Description This lecture/lab course is designed to provide students with the information and skills necessary for positive health decision-making.  Students will be introduced to holistic health/wellness concepts.  Content includes nutrition, diet and weight control, exercise prescription, and stress management.
Course Objectives 1. Acquire an understanding of the different components and principles of fitness and wellness.

2. Comprehend the interrelationship between the different components of wellness.

3. Equip the learner with the skills, knowledge, and tools necessary to integrate wellness concepts into his/her life.

4. Articulate the benefits of incorporating healthy choices into your life.

5. Access and analyze valid health information from a variety of sources.

6. Utilize goal setting and decision-making skills to enhance health.
