Course Prerequisites Before enrolling in this course, the student should be familiar with basic touch-typing fundamentals and have some experience working in a windows environment with a mouse.  You will need access to a computer and an Internet Browser.  
Textbook Do not buy a book that does not come with a CD - Medical Terminology for Health Professions, Sixth Edition by Ann Ehrlich and Carol Schroeder. Thomson Publishing.  ISBN #1-418072524
Online Course Features and Requirements Number of tests: There are fifteen chapter exams.  They are all available online.

Requirements:  Students must have access to the following:

  • Equipment:  You will need a computer that is able to access and interact with the Web. For best results, a Pentium or PowerMac with a 56 Kbps or faster modem and 256 MB or more of RAM should be considered the minimal system.
  • Software:  You will need one of the following Internet browsers: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or higher; Firefox; Mac users may use Safari or Firefox.
  • Internet connection: Home users need Internet access through an Internet Service Provider (ISP) that offers a reliable connection to the Internet.

Curriculum Statement: Upon completion of this course, students will know about and be able to use and understand basic medical terminology.
Description The course introduces students to basic medical terminology.  Prefixes, suffixes, word roots, combining forms, special endings, plural forms, abbreviations, and symbols are included in the content.  A self-paced computerized program allows the students to progress at their own rate.  Emphasis is placed on spelling, definition, usage, and pronunciation. 
Grading Homework-Daily Chapters=50%
Fifteen Chapter Exams (one exam for each chapter in the textbook) =50% 

12 highest chapter exams will be averaged together for the final grade
