| Description | This course teaches the psychology of interviewing as well as the skills for conducting effective interviews. This involves the techniques for establishing rapport, developing counseling responses, identifying behavior goals, and implementing strategies to bring about change or crisis intervention. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Readings: Students are expected to complete the readings as assigned.
Class Participation: Involvement in class discussions/activities and the ability to integrate readings into these discussions/activities are important aspects of this course. All students will be expected to participate in the discussion forums. Assignments: Students will complete all assignments with integrity and by assigned due date. Evaluation: Feedback is critical for our development as professionals and individuals. Students will receive feedback in the form of credit for application assignments, role playing, completed case notes, and participation with Discussion Board Forums. It is assumed that you will take the feedback in the context that it is given--to help you develop as a professional. Quizzes: There will be five (5) quizzes throughout the semester. They will consist of T/F, multiple choice questions and/or essay. The quizzes will be completed online and will be automatically scored and entered into your grade book. Each quiz is worth 10 points. Exams: There will be 3 proctored unit exams. Role Playing: Role playing is a significant part of this course. All students will participate in at least three (3) role playing activities (pre-test, practice, and post-test). The role playing will be conducted in the Virtual Classroom (chat room). The various skill levels will be evaluated by the instructor as "A" (acceptable) or "u" (unacceptable). Students are encouraged to visit the Virtual Classroom Archives to observe other student's role playing experience. Please feel free to respond and ask questions to your observations in the discuss board. Case Notes. The "helper" (student) must complete case notes at the end of the pre-test, practice and post-test interviews. |

| Grading Scale |
Quizzes, course assignments, and reports will be graded using point system. Responding to question in the discussion forum within the week they are posted will allow the student to earn up to two additional points per question.

| Academic Policies | Incompletes: Students will receive a grade of "I" when illness, unavoidable absence, or extenuating circumstances (acceptable to the instructor) prevent completion of course requirements. A grade of "I" must be removed by the end of the subsequent semester, excluding summer sessions. Upon completion of the remaining course requirements, the "I" grade will be removed and the earned grade recorded. It is the responsibility of the student to request an "I" grade. |
