the current edition of Business Law Today by Miller and Jentz. You
must purchase the book that contains the internet access code.
This textbook can be purchased from the Kellogg Community College bookstore, either in person or by calling the bookstore at 269-965-4128. You will need to give your credit card information. It will shipped to you by UPS. |
| Online Course Features and Requirements | Number of tests: 4
of which 4 must be proctored. Tests
must be taken at one of the Kellogg Community College sites. If you live
outside the Calhoun, Branch or Barry county areas, arrangements can be made to
take a proctored test at a local Michigan community college.
Required on campus sessions: None Special labs or practicum: None Number of assignments: There are chapters to read in the textbook and there are reading assignments on the website. Students will use a discussion board. There are a number of written assignments. For further information, see the course syllabus. Estimated time per week: Varies by student. Group interaction required: Students will interact by responding to discussion board questions regarding legal cases. Scheduled activities or self paced: Most activities are self-paced. There are assignments with due dates. No points are awarded for late work. There are due dates for taking tests. No points are awarded for tests taken late. | Curriculum Statement: | This course will prepare you to understand the law as it relates to Business. Students will study secured transactions including the law involving repossessions. Students will study the law relative to bankruptcy. Students will study the law of agency. This course will cover the law relating to sole companies and corporations. Students will study consumer law and environmental law. We will study labor law and employment law. This course will cover the law relative to personal property and bailments. We will study real property law and landlord-tenant law. This course will cover the law relating to insurance, to wills and to trusts. |
| Description | Business Law 202 will cover secured transactions, business organizations, partnerships, corporations, bankruptcy, trusts, bailments, estates, wills, property. leases, mortgages and insurance. The case method will be employed, and selected current significant legal rulings will be discussed. |
| Objectives | 1. The student will understand the basic
principles involving secured transactions under the Uniform Commercial Code.
2. The student will understand the basic principles involved in bankruptcy. 3. The student will understand the law as it relates to agency. 4. The student will understand the law as it relates to sole proprietorships, franchises, partnerships, limited liability companies and corporations. 5. The student will develop an understanding of law as it relates to personal property and to bailments. 6. The student will understand the law relative to real property and the law of landlord-tenant. 7. The student will develop an understanding of insurance law. 8. The student will understand the law relating to estates, wills and trusts. |
