Textbook Required:  Managing Human Resources, Edition 5, by Luis R. Gomez-Mejia, David B. Balkin, and Robert L. Cardy

 

Online Course Features and Requirements Number of tests: There will be one mid-term and one-final which must be proctored.  

Number of quizzes:  There will be 12 quizzes, one after each chapter.

Required on campus sessions:  At least two, for the mid-term and final.

Special labs or practicum:  None

Number of assignments:  There will be a variety of Internet assignments, Case Studies, as well as some Discussion Board assignments.  Check the outline for more detail.

Estimated time per week:  9 hours

Requirements:  Students must have access to the following:

 

    • Equipment:  You will need a computer that is able to access and interact with the Web. For best results, a Pentium or PowerMac with a 56 Kbps or faster modem and 256 MB or more of RAM should be considered the minimal system.
    • Software:  You will need one of the following Internet browsers: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or higher; Firefox; Mac users may use Safari or Firefox.
    • Internet connection: Home users need Internet access through an Internet Service Provider (ISP) that offers a reliable connection to the Internet.

Description An analysis of the management of personnel from the viewpoint of the individual supervisor and the personnel department.  Subject content will include corrective discipline, grievance procedures, collective bargaining, job analysis, interviewing and placement techniques, performance evaluation, psychological testing of employees, and supervisory development and motivation.  These subjects are presented through individual and group involvement techniques such as case studies, discussions of current problems, and role playing.
