Course Objectives to be assessed on Test IV
- Find the prime factorization of any monomial.
- Reduce a fraction by factoring and canceling common factors.
- Understand that you can not cancel common terms of a fraction.
- Find the reciprocal of any number.
- Know what "mixed numbers" and "improper fractions" are.
- Write a mixed number as an improper fraction.
- Multiply and divide fractions.
- Know why you do NOT need an LCD to multiply or divide
fractions.
- Make fractions "like" by finding an LCD (least common denominator)
- Add and subtract fractions.
- Know why you DO need an LCD to add or subtract
fractions.
- Evaluate and simplify variable expressions when the variables are
fractions.
- Solve equations with fractions by "clearing the fractions"
(multiplying both sides of the equation by the LCD)
- Check a fractional solution to an equation.
- Solve word problems that involve fractional quantities.
