Session 12 Assignments, Section 7-1

At the end of this lesson, you, as a successful student, will be able to understand and to use in confidence interval activities

If you have not done so and you want to at this point, then read the Session 12 notes. Click here to see the notes or close this window and click to see the notes.

When you finish this lesson, you will complete Mathzone requirement and the Discussion Requirement requirement below.

Confidence Interval for Mean with Sigma Known or with Large Samples

At the end of this session you will be able to

  1. Review the z-score or standard score on pages 142 - 143 of Section 3-3 of your textbook.
  2. Review Section 6-1 for areas under curve and calculating z-values associated with probabilities and areas under curve in Section 6-2.
  3. In your textbook, study Section1 7-1 on pages 356 through 365.   Practice all examples without looking at the solutions in the book.  Then compare with the textbook solution to insure you understood.
  4. If you have not done so, read the Session 12 notes for the confidence interval of the mean in the case of large samples . You can close this window and click to see the notes.
  5. Practice on pages 366 - 367 of Section 7-1 the following: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 11, 13, 15, and 19.

Discussion Board

In this course we are using (Groups) instead of the regular (Discussions) board, as you learned in Session 1, for posting solutions to your problems.

Close this window.

Click on the (Groups) button at the left, click on your group, scroll down to Group Tools and click on "Group Discussion Board", and then click on the "Solutions" discussion forum.

Click on the "Mean Interval (Session 12)" thread and post your solution to one of the problems listed below.  Select a problem another student has not yet answered.  In your posting, give a complete solution and/ or explanation of how you obtained your answer.  In the subject line of your posting, give the page and problem number.

You are expected to locate errors in any of the other postings.  If you are the first to see the error, then you are to help your classmate correct his/her posting.  To maximize your points, reply to other students and reply to the replies. Class participation and helping others is part of this course.  Therefore, you who consistently are quick to help your classmates correct errors will receive extra credit for class participation.

Pages 366 - 367 of Section 7-1, numbers 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22,  24, or 26.
