Orientation to Online Learning
Online Learning - what is it and is
it for me?
If you are thinking about
enrolling in a
KCC online course, there are some things you need to know.
The information found here provides distance learners - that's
you - with an orientation to online learning. Additionally, the
information found here will help you decide if you have the necessary skills and equipment for online learning.
At the completion of the orientation, you will be able to focus on the learning objectives
found within your online course rather than on the technology used to
deliver the course. Additionally, the purpose of this orientation is
to assist you in identifying any barriers to your success as an online
student, and then provide you with the information or support that will
allow you to overcome those barriers.
Online learners who participate in an online orientation prior to taking an online class are more likely to succeed in their learning
experience. Working your way through the orientation
material should take anywhere between one to two hours to complete depending on your
existent knowledge and comfort
using the Internet. You can sequentially work your way
through the orientation material by following the links on the bottom of
each page. Or you can navigate your own path through the material by
using the links located to the left.
It is strongly encouraged that you take
the time to read and work through this orientation material prior to enrolling in an online course.
This orientation material will provide you with relevant information
about
online learning environments, and it will answer many important
questions:
-
What is online learning?
- Is online learning for you?
-
What computer equipment or technology is needed?
-
What technical knowledge is expected?
- Are there tips for success?
- What if I have questions or need help?
