PowerPoint I -
Introduction
Effective use of visual communication techniques can
result in powerful presentations that will grab your students’
interest and attention. Employing
basic visual communication guidelines when using PowerPoint is the focus
of this workshop. Participants
will be shown how to edit and format slides, use graphics, speaker
notes, and create student handouts.
Participants should bring a floppy disk to save the work created
during the workshop.

PowerPoint II -
Advanced *
Building from the basics covered in PowerPoint I -
Introduction, this workshop will focus on advanced tasks such as adding
audio, custom animation, and saving PowerPoint presentations as web pages.
Participants
should bring a floppy disk to save the work created during the workshop.
Web Design I - Web
Page Design
What is a web page and how does it work?
The conceptual aspects of web pages and the process of developing
web pages will be discussed. Microsoft FrontPage will be used to create simple web pages
containing text, colors, graphics, and links.
Participants should bring a floppy disk to save the work created
during the workshop. Web
pages will not be published to a web server during this workshop.

Digital
Imaging – Optimizing Photographs for PowerPoint and Web
Photographs
can add rich information and visual appeal to most any PowerPoint
presentation or web site. The
focus of this workshop includes: techniques on how to shoot quality
digital photos, transfer photos from the camera to a computer, save in
appropriate file format, and optimize for web or presentation use.
Participants will use the PDC’s digital cameras and photo editing software to optimize
the photos. Participants
should bring multiple floppy disks to save their photos. (Examples
of photos taken during a previous workshop.)

Blackboard I - Introduction
What is Blackboard; what is a course management system?
In this workshop participants will receive an orientation to the
course management system known as Blackboard.
Participants will experience the Blackboard virtual classroom environment from both
a student and instructor perspective.
Participants will be shown how to
customize a Blackboard course, such as add announcements, provide staff
information, and create a discussion forum.
Blackboard II - Content *
The focus of this workshop will be the process of
bringing course content into a Blackboard course.
Participants will be shown how to bring course material such as
web pages, graphics, Word documents, and PowerPoint presentations into
Blackboard. The benefits
and impact on students relating to the different content formats will be
discussed. Participants should have a Blackboard course for this
workshop. To acquire a
Blackboard course contact the Learning Technologies group 269.965.3931
x2378.

Blackboard III - Communication *
One of the most powerful features of Blackboard is the
Discussion Board. The
Discussion Board allows for enhanced and enriched interactivity between
the instructor and students as well as between students themselves. This workshop will focus on the process of developing a
structured Discussion Board. For
purposes of collaboration, the workshop will cover the steps necessary
to create groups of students using the Group Pages tool. Participants should have a Blackboard course for this
workshop. To acquire a
Blackboard course contact the Learning Technologies group 269.965.3931
x2378.
Blackboard IV -
Assessment & Gradebook *
Online assessment and grade management is the focus of
this workshop. Blackboard’s
assessment tools allows instructors to create quizzes that can be
automatically graded and the online gradebook tool manages the
students’ grades. Participants
will be shown how to create online assessments and customize the online
gradebook. Participants
should have a Blackboard course for this workshop.
To acquire a Blackboard course contact the Learning Technologies
group 269.965.3931 x2378.
WIDS Program Design workshop
This one-day workshop will introduce you to
performance-based learning and why it is important. Learn to bring
multiple courses together into one program using WIDS software.
Participants learn to link outcomes and measures, related DACUMs and
external standards. You will use the WIDS Analyzer utility to locate and
chart identified outcomes in groups of courses.
Prerequisite: Completion of WIDS Quick
Syllabus workshop or WIDS Designing and Assessing Learning workshop.
WIDS Quick
Syllabus workshop
This "how to" workshop is designed to address the needs of first time WIDS
users. In this one-day session, you will create a performance-based,
learner-centered syllabus for a course of instruction using a WIDS
template. To develop your syllabus, you will write competencies that
serve as a framework for your course. If desired, you can link your
course to exit learning outcomes (general education and program outcomes)
so curriculum leaders can run WIDS Analyzer matrix reports that summarize
where outcomes are addressed in courses and across programs.
Quick Syllabus workshop will focus on three
competencies:
(a) Building a performance-based course plan, which
requires working with outcomes and assessment.
(b) Writing learning outcomes, which requires
developing competencies and linking outcomes to the course of study.
(c) Developing the WIDS Quick Syllabus, which shows
all exit learning outcomes, competencies, college guidelines and policies,
grading information, and schedule.
It's All About
the Learner
What drives the curriculum you teach? Is
it the state? Is it the school? Perhaps it's a national standard or
program. Though each of these are very important to designing a
course, the real driver is your "learner"! The learner or student
takes your course for many reasons, whether as a requirement for a
certification or degree program or just for fun. This workshop will
introduce and support the concepts of performance-based learning and
help you examine the course outcomes within your own learning
designs.
Workshop Title: WIDS
Wizard Workshop: Using WIDS to Design Courses
Prerequisite: It's All About the
Learner Workshop or WIDS DAL
Workshop Description: WIDS Wizard is a
hands-on workshop experience using the Worldwide Instructional
Design System (WIDS) performance-based model and software to design
learning and assessment for any type of learner. Exit learning
outcomes such as general education outcomes, core abilities and any
specific external standards can be linked to targeted course
competencies and their performance standards. A Course Outcome
Summary and Quick Syllabus document are produced in this workshop.
Participants are expected to bring a course map and course outcomes
developed in the prerequisite workshop.

Note: Workshops with less than
five (5) registered participants will be cancelled.
* Prerequisite: Completion of the Introduction workshop is
required or instructor permission.
