Novell
NetWare
Novell
NetWare is a network
operating system that allows faculty and staff at KCC to share software,
save files, and access network printers.
KCC
uses the Novell NetWare as the standard for networking file servers, desktop computers, and printers.
What is Novell?
Novell NetWare extends the abilities of a
desktop computer by providing powerful network services including:
- Personal folders for private file storage.
- Shared directories for groups of people that share files or programs.
- Networked printing services so people may share printers.
- Shared software capabilities (e.g.
Townsend Press, PLATO).
- Security to prevent unauthorized access of information.
How do I acquire a Novell account?
Contact the Information Services (I.S.) Department (specifically Debbie Paul,
x2715)
to request a Novell account.
How to login to the Novell network.
When you first turn on your desktop computer, you will be prompted with a Novell
Login dialog box. Using the information provided by the I.S.
Department, enter your username and password. Click OK and you
will have access to your network files, software, and printers.

Login to the network from a
different computer on campus.
To access your files, software, or printer from anywhere on campus,
you can login to the Novell network from any KCC-networked computer.
- To locate the Novell Login dialog box,
click on the Start button, choose Programs, choose the Novell
option, and then click on the Novell Login option.
- Click on the Advanced button in the
bottom right of the dialog box.
- In the NDS tab area, the Tree field should
read "Kellogg". You will have to choose the Context
and Server settings appropriate for you.
- To select
your Context, click on the button
to the right of the context field area. For example, as an Art
& Communication faculty member you would choose
"ArtsComm.Academics.cdc.kcc1".
- To select
your Server, click on the button
to the right of the Server field area. For example, as an
Academic faculty member you would choose "BC_3".
- Now enter your username and password
and click OK.

What does it mean once I am logged in to the
network?
Your username and password is your "network identity" and
logging in is the process that authenticates you on the network.
All faculty and staff have access to only certain areas of the network
(these areas are determined by the individual departments and I.S.
Department).
Once you have logged in to the network
you now have access to your "personal folder", shared
software, and network printers.
To view your network drives and to locate
your "personal folder", open your Windows Explorer. Network
drives can begin with the letter F through Z.
