Academic Web Server

computer > internet > webAn "academic web server" has been established by Kellogg Community College to provide an opportunity for faculty to post web-based material on the Internet.  Faculty-created web sites are hosted on the academic web server and content may include material such as course information, syllabi, and other instructional material.

To develop web-based content, faculty can request what is known as a "FrontPage account".  Faculty create web pages using FrontPage and simultaneously publish the web pages on the academic web server using the site management features of FrontPage.  Use of this software allows faculty to create web pages without needing to know HTML code.

When publishing content on the academic web server, faculty have to adhere to KCC's academic web policy and the College's guidelines for computer and communication technology use.

What is the "academic web policy" for KCC?
Kellogg Community College has an academic web policy that all faculty are to follow.  Individuals are responsible for maintaining appropriate content within their web pages on this server.  Appropriate use policies for campus computer accounts apply to web pages, including policies regarding commercial use, copyright, and harassment.  Usage must be in accordance with the college's Guidelines for Computer and Communication Technology Use.

I would like to request a FrontPage account.
Faculty who are interested in developing web-based material for instructional purposes can request a FrontPage account.  This account provides web hosting space on the academic server.

Note that this account does not provide the software package, FrontPage.  The faculty member has to have a copy of FrontPage in order to utilize the account.  To acquire a copy of FrontPage, faculty should speak to their departmental chair and the I.S. Department.

How do I learn to create web sites using FrontPage?
There are a number of options for learning how to create and manage web sites using FrontPage:

Training workshops, covering web design using FrontPage, are offered every term.  You may also work through a Microsoft educationally-focused tutorial of FrontPage.  Finally, you may check out a book/manual on FrontPage from the PDC library.
