Research Interests

Current research interests focus on information literacy, online learning, and museum informatics. Completed dissertation involved a mixed methods study focusing on the informational value of a Holocaust Museum exhibition in its onsite vs. online format.

Special Projects

Selected as participant in the Holocaust & Jewish Resistance Teachers Program 2007, a three-week study abroad project in Poland and Israel.

Created Weblogs to promote discussion of memoirs by Holocaust survivors Elie Wiesel and Gerda Weissmann Klein, linking Lakeview High School students with their peers in New York and in other Michigan schools. See http://nightwiesel.blogspot.com/ and http://mlincoln.lishost.org/.

Organized classroom visits by more than 6,000 students in 2003 and 2005 to view traveling United States Holocaust Memorial Museum exhibitions on display in Battle Creek, Michigan while providing instructional resource support for teachers.

Collaborated with Scott Durham, Lakeview High School Social Studies teacher, to write an online primary source unit on World War I, published on the Learning Page of the Library of Congress at http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/ndlpedu/lessons/index.html

Developed and taught workshops for Battle Creek area schools on Microsoft Office, online research, and digitized primary sources.

Created and maintained the Lakeview High School Library website at http://www.remc12.k12.mi.us/lhslib  to facilitate Internet research by LHS students. Website offers tutorials for using Michigan eLibrary resources.

Organized a school-wide project "Reach for a Star, Ask a Librarian" in which students wrote letters to celebrities requesting articles of memorabilia. Over 90 items were received, placed on exhibit, viewed and judged by the student body during National Library Week (April 1990) amid media coverage by local television, radio and newspaper.

Coordinated closing the school district's Highland Junior High School Library in 1982 and supervised reallocation of materials collection.

National Honor Society Advisor

Served as Lakeview HS National Honor Society Advisor since 1975.

Developed first All-City Quiz Bowl program for Battle Creek schools. Organized Quiz Bowl conducted over DIAL (Distance Interactive Learning) fiber optic network. Initiated participation in online QuizNet program.

Initiated annual project whereby National Honor Society students escort senior citizens to school musical each year.

Established ongoing tutoring program.

Organized annual NHS Induction Ceremony, inviting such noted guest speakers as CEO of Kellogg Company William LaMothe, U.S. Senator Carl Levin, U.S. Congressman Howard Wolpe, Eastern Michigan Head Basketball Coach Ben Braun, Vice President of Kellogg Company Joe Stewart, University of Michigan Regent Shirley McFee, US Congressman Mark Schauer, and U.S. Congressman John Schwarz.
