Cardiovascular SystemThe Cardiovascular system will be divided into 3 learning segments.
Blood Chapter: 11
Heart Chapter 12
Blood Vessels: Arteries-Veins Chapter 13
This tends to be a more interesting unit of study for most students, and you have many tools which will aide your successful learning. You must choose a system that works and launch into your study each day. You will find additional help outside your text at the prenhall website, EAP CD(E, D, G) (NOTE: You may find it easier to just run the CD from your computer.). (Click Start, Run, Browse for your CD. Select Start_EAP3e_CD from the files displayed.), ADAM Interactive Anatomy (LRC Lab). PLEASE NOTE: The website is NOT for your textbook, but the content is identical (human body is a human body is a ...) so the activities will be the same., ADAM Interactive Anatomy (LRC Lab). You have approximately 1.5 weeks to complete this task. Stay tuned to the pulse of this unit as you learn.
You will need to know all of the topics presented in the list of objectives in your textbook for chapter 12
The Heart and its Circulatory System P 368-370
The Anatomy and Organization of the heart p. 370-374
The heartbeat p.375-380
(note, you are not responsible for Heart Dynamics) p. 381-383
The anatomy of Blood Vessels P. 390-393
Pulmonary Circulation .
Systemic Circulation
In addition, you are responsible for the blood vessels
You are responsible for all the arteries shown on page 407
You are responsible for all the veins shown on page 413
Your mastery of this material will be measured by appropriately labeling a diagram or a lab model showing the circulatory system.
YOU ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE INFORMATION ON PAGES 394(Circulatory Phys) thru PAGE 404.
From the chapters on blood, you will need to be able to identify the following blood cells whether presented as a microscopic slide or described by structure or function.
Erythrocytes (Red blood cells)
Granular Leukocyte (white blood cells) p. 140-143
Eosinophil
Basophil
Neutrophil
Agranular Leukocyte (white blood cells)
Monocyte
Lymphocyte
From the chapters on the Heart, you will need to identify the following structures of the heart from diagrams, laboratory models and function plates 68-81
Four chambers 144-145
Four Valves 146-149
Major vessels leading into and out of the heart 148-149
Cardiac conduction system see text p. 377
sectional anatomy of the heart p. 147-149
From the Chapter on Blood Vessels and circulation you will need to identify by diagram, laboratory models and function the following vessels: p. 186-187 *NOTE THE ARTERY AND VEINS YOU MUST KNOW ARE ON P 407 and 413 OF YOUR TEXT. The lab pages list more vessels. Highlight and learn only the text list!
Systemic Arteries as they appear on Lec text page 407 and plates 82,87-88
Systemic Veins as they appear on Lec text p. 413 and plates 89-90
The text material has great potential to help you learn the many components of the Cardiovascular system:
Review the quizzes
including matching
and most importantly, labeling exercises:
Textbook: Read the objectives. Use them as a guide when you
skim read the chapter to get a feel for the content and how the different topics are related
reread the chapter look for the critical points and preparing for lecture
study the chapter to learn the critical content
review the chapter preparing for the quizzes and exams
Lecture: Attend all lectures. Use them to
identify important points
ask questions of points not well understood in the text
measure your learning comprehension
Lab: Attend your scheduled lab and take
advantage of open times to continue to study
Use your
labs to correlate text structures to actual specimens in lab
EAP CDrom: Interact with the materials on your CD
