Course Companion: Web Links

  1. Go to your textbook companion site:
  2. Click the link for chapter web links
  3. Write a brief summary of what you learned from reading the report.  You must have at least three specific statements of things you learned (or found interesting).  You must include both the name of the reading and the URL in your summary.
  4. Post your summary on the class discussion board as a reply to the appropriate thread.
  5. Read at least one of the summaries that your classmates have posted.  Reply to your classmate's summary with a list of at least two things you found interesting about that summary.  You must make an original reply.  Any replies that appear very similar to the replies of another student will not receive credit.  It would probably be best to reply to a summary that does not have a reply to make certain that your reply is unique.

If you don't like the ones in the book, you may also use the weblinks shown here:

Lab Work

Please use the site:  http://www.udel.edu/Biology/ketcham/microscope/scope.html  to interact with a virtual microscope in addition to reading your lab booklet lab 1:  The microscope.  I suggest you go through the complete virtual tour and then look at each of the 4 slides in turn to become familiar with the use of the microscope.  Pay particular attention to the onion root tip since we will be looking at that in the book as well.

Answer the questions in your lab book for Lab 1, the Microsope.  This quiz will be based on what you learned at the http://www.udel.edu/Biology/ketcham/microscope/scope.html site as well as what you learned when you read the microscope lab.  Unlike the quizzes that will follow later in the course that will be coming completely from the lab, on this first quiz you will have to recognize the correct answer even though you have not seen that particular question in question format as you completed the lab.

Chapter Quiz

There will be a 20 question quiz for each chapter.  The quiz is open book and notes, but it is timed and you will only have 15 minutes to answer the 20 quiz questions.  However, you may take the test as many times as you want.  Each time to take the quiz, you will be presented with 20 questions randomly selected from the chapter test pool.  NOTE:  For the midsemester exam you will NOT be allowed to use notes or take the exam more than once, but the questions will come from the test pools for chapters 1, and 3 - 11.  To take the chapter quiz,
