Course Objectives to be assessed on Test 4

  • Find the prime factorization of any monomial.
  • Reduce a fraction by factoring and canceling common factors.
  • Understand that you can not cancel common terms of a fraction.
     
  • Find the reciprocal of any number.
  • Know what "mixed numbers" and "improper fractions" are.
  • Write a mixed number as an improper fraction.
     
  • Multiply and divide fractions.
        -  Know why you do NOT need an LCD to multiply or divide fractions.
  • Make fractions "like" by finding an LCD (least common denominator)
  • Add and subtract fractions.
        -  Know why you DO need an LCD to add or subtract fractions.
  • Evaluate and simplify variable expressions when the variables are fractions.
     
  • Solve equations with fractions by "clearing the fractions"  (multiplying both sides of the equation by the LCD)
  • Check a fractional solution to an equation.
  • Solve word problems that involve fractional quantities.
